Poundland is, for me, both a heaven and a hell - the bargains are amazing, but often the hectic experience can leave me wishing I had never even entered. So seeing that they had released their own makeup, I was curious to see whether the products would be beauty heaven or beauty hell.
The first thing I picked up was their 'Long Lasting Foundation' in 'Nude 3'. I'm always a bit iffy when it comes to foundations, but I was pleasantly surprised by this. The shade matched my skin pretty perfectly, and the moussy formula didn't leave my face looking cakey. It gives quite a light, natural coverage which I'm actually a fan of, so I might be using this more often for a more minimalist makeup look. Also, the packaging reminds me of a tube of paint which means I can trust myself to throw it in my handbag without any glass breaking!
Next we have the 'Matte Bronzer' in 'Matte Light 1', which gives a very subtle bronzed look when applied on my skin tone. For people with very pale skin, I can imagine this would be a great colour match. Something I really like about this is that it is matte! Without being shimmery, it leaves my skin looking lightly tanned, or as I like to call it "alive", without being too over the top. However, you can definitely tell it is cheap- there is something about it that doesn't feel quite right on the skin and it is rather chalky so not sure if I will be using this a lot.
Now for the 'Blusher' in 'Spice 3'. This is a super subtle, natural pale browny-pink blush which I could probably see myself wearing if it wasn't so chalky. Like the bronzer, this also doesn't feel 100% right on my face and does feel cheap. Luckily though, I have a No7 blusher in 'Honey' which is basically the same colour and feels a lot nicer. This Poundland is just too chalky and too particley (?) so would probably settle into any fine lines on your face.
Another product which just didn't work is the 'Pressed Powder' in 'Translucent 1'. Again, Poundland aren't doing great with the powders; it is chalky/particley and leaves an odd white cast on my face so it definitely is not translucent. Something else I'm not too keen on with this is the scent. It smells like grandma perfume (that is the best way to describe it) and the scent lingers on your face. While it isn't unpleasant or chemically, it is definitely a smell I wouldn't choose to wear myself, so I'm going to have to say another no to this product.
We end on perhaps my favourites of the bunch- the lipsticks! I picked up '03 Naked Brown', '17 Deep Red' and '19 Plum Pout', and two of these were really great. '03 Naked Brown' is a gorgeous pinky-brown which just glides onto the lips, leaving them surprisingly nourished. I could definitely see this being an easy everyday shade to add a subtle pop of colour to my lips. Moving onto '17 Deep Red', a really pretty bright red lipstick with the same slightly sheeny finish. It applied evenly, again leaving my lips soft and nourished. While it isn't very long lasting, you cannot really complain for £1. '19 Plum Pout' was, however, a bitter disappointment. It is a sheer, frosted dark purple which applies very unevenly, and wipes right off when you move your lips at all. What's more, it leaves my lips feeling dry afterwards. This one is a no-go, but the other two are just great!

Overall, I was quite impressed with what Poundland had to offer. I would definitely recommend that you pick up the foundation, and the lipsticks in '03' and '17, but perhaps leave the powders on the shelf. On my next trip, I really want to pick up their liquid eyeliner, eyeshadows and nail varnish because I've heard good stuff about them!
Have you tried any makeup from Poundland? What did you think? Let me know!
