Things F Scott Fitzgerald taught me

I can safely say that F Scott Fitzgerald is one of my favourite authors, and I'm not ashamed to admit that I've developed an obsession for his relationship with Zelda and read a book (or two or three) about the couple. I am one of those that would love to live in the 20s, lounging around in coffee shops with other writers, drinking till I drop in speakeasies, partying in Gatsby-esque mansions. Hence why Midnight in Paris is one of my favourite films - it is just such a dream. Also hello Tom Hiddleston as F Scott Fitzgerald. So I wanted to share ten of my favourite quotes from the great man himself, because he is just such a master of words.

"Our lives are defined by opportunities, even the ones we miss."

"That is part of the beauty of literature. You discover that your longings are universal longings, that you're not lonely and isolated from anyone. You belong."

"The world only exists in your eyes. You can make it as big or as small as you want."

"There are all kinds of love in this world but never the same love twice."

"Never confuse a single defeat with a final defeat."

"And so with the sunshine and the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow in fast movies, I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning over again with the summer."

"Cut out all these exclamation points. An exclamation point is like laughing at your own joke."

"All good writing is swimming under water and holding your breath."

"Speech is an arrangement of notes that will never be played again."

"Too much of anything is bad, but too much champagne is just right."

Have you read any Fitzgerald?

Monki wishlist

Sunglasses | Top | Skirt | Top Scarf | Case

Monki is one of my favourite shops- you can guarantee each time I go to London I will pop into their shop in Carnaby Street to admire everything. The new stock is gorgeous, so I've racked up a few pieces I would love to buy next time I pop in. Starting with these sunglasses, I cannot wait to buy them because they just look so effortlessly chic. I've never owned cat-eye-esque glasses, so I hope they will suit my face shape. Next, this dreaaamy high necked, striped, half sleeve top. This is genuinely my dream top, it is just everything I want in a top so I am over the moon Monki are selling this. Something else I'm excited about is the grey scuba skirt. I saw and felt it in the store last week and just fell in love. I've never seen anything like it, and I think it would be fun to play around coordinating outfits with it because of the amazing texture. Now for the top, it is just so classic and chic and something I need in my wardrobe. As is the camel scarf- I really need some camel in my life and this scarf would do the job perfectly. And last, but certainly not least, this stunning case. Monki say it can be used as "a wallet, as an evening bag or to collect the stuff you keep in your bigger bag in a stylish way". All of the above, yes please.

What do you think of these pieces?

Poundland makeup review

Poundland is, for me, both a heaven and a hell - the bargains are amazing, but often the hectic experience can leave me wishing I had never even entered. So seeing that they had released their own makeup, I was curious to see whether the products would be beauty heaven or beauty hell.

Taking the plunge

I've finally decided to start a proper blog *cue celebratory trumpets* and I could not be more excited. Now that I've figured out how to make my blog look presentable and pretty, I'm going to need to start working on content that I'm proud of. Hopefully I will find time to manage blogging and school, but I'm sure the trials and tribulations of that will sort itself out in the near future.

I think that a list of why I'm starting this blog will motivate me, so here goes;

Developing my own voice
Improving my photography skills
Meeting new people
Discovering new things/products
Keeping a record of things I've done
Having an actual hobby
Learning how to organise my thoughts
Sharing my ideas
Living a more intentional life
Adopting healthier life habits
Becoming more confident

Finally, I'd like to quickly introduce myself- my name is Vicky, I am 17, I'm going to study English Literature at university next year, I have an over-the-top love for dogs, and I dress 99% in black.

It's lovely to meet you and I can't want to get to know you more, so please introduce yourself in the comments?
